The reigning OUA champion University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team defeated the York Lions 2-1 Sunday (Sept. 18) morning to carry a 2-0 undefeated record through the opening weekend of 2016.
All the action came in the second half with fourth-year co-captain Lauren Sudac opening the scoring for the Blues in the 40th minute.
York responded shortly after in the 46th minute with Kyra McKinnon finding the back of the net.
However, fourth-year forward Megan Johansen scored in the 54th minute to break the 1-1 stalemate and secure the U of T victory.
Through two games the Varsity Blues now have five different goal-scorers, showcasing the array of weapons Toronto will utilize throughout their 2016 campaign.
First-year goalkeeper Elizabeth O'Hara picked up her first-career OUA win in the effort.
The Varsity Blues will now return home as they get set to take on a host of challengers beginning with the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday, September 24. Action begins at 9 a.m. at Back Campus Fields.
