The OUA defending champion University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team opened their 2016 regular season with a convincing 3-0 victory over the Western Mustangs on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 17) in Guelph, Ont.
 
Third-year forward Morgan Sleeth opened the scoring, notching the eventual game-winning goal in the 16th minute. The Blues held onto a 1-0 lead at halftime.
 
Three-time OUA all-star Alison Lee scored to give Toronto a two-goal lead in the 45th minute and fellow veteran defender Taylor Fleck rounded out the scoring in the 65th minute.
 
Sara Fredo earned the win for Toronto in net.
 
The Blues head back to Guelph tomorrow (Sept. 18) to take on the York Lions. Game time is set for 10:45 a.m.
