The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's rugby team dropped their home opener 89-0 to the visiting Queen's Gaels Friday (Sept. 16) night at Varsity Stadium.

U of T displayed immense heart battling through a strong Gaels attack in the early going, putting up a pair of goal line stands within the first 20 minutes of the match.

Varsity Blues Jenny Linn and Ashten Sawitsky made big runs flipping the field for U of T throughout the contest while Chrstina Angelakis put her body on the line slowing down the Gaels defensively.

Miranda Siefert led the way for Queen's scoring three tries while Erin Geddes kicked four conversions for the Gaels.

The Varsity Blues will now have a week to prepare for their next matchup taking on the Waterloo Warriors next Saturday, September 24 in Waterloo. Action kicks off at 12 p.m.
