The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's soccer teams host two doubleheaders this weekend, first welcoming the Trent Excalibur to Varsity Stadium on Saturday, September 3 before taking on the UOIT Ridgebacks on Sunday, September 4.
Both women's matches kickoff at 1 p.m., followed by the men at 3:15 p.m.
The No. 7 nationally ranked Varsity Blues men enter the weekend riding a wave of momentum after two season-opening wins over the Nipissing Lakers 5-0 on the road and Laurentian Voyageurs 3-0 at home.
With the eight goals for and zero goals against to open the season, Toronto ranks second in the entire OUA in goal differential, showcasing the team balance in this veteran-laden squad.
U of T will focus on keeping up their winning ways with the Excalibur and Ridgebacks, who both were unsuccessful in their openers, sitting with 0-1 records of their own to begin the 2016 campaign.
Meanwhile on the women's side, the Blues split their opening weekend, dropping a 2-1 decision on the road against Nipissing before bouncing back with a 3-0 home victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs, placing them in a tie for third place in the OUA East division.
2015 team scoring leader Natasha Klasios picked up where she left off last season, currently leading the OUA in shots with 10. The reigning OUA East rookie of the year converted two of those for goals in Toronto's home opening victory Sunday afternoon, placing her in a tie for 4th in the OUA in goals scored.
U of T will look to utilize this aggressive play along with its strong backline of co-captains Laura Krkachovski and Christine Mulligan to take down the winless Excalibur and Ridgebacks. Neither team earned a victory to sit 0-2 apiece, while giving up 16 goals through those contests.
Following this weekend's doubleheaders, both the men and women will hit the road as they travel to the nation's capital with matches against the Carleton Ravens and Ottawa Gee-Gees scheduled for September 10 and 11.
