BLUES FALL SHORT IN PLAYOFF BATTLE WITH GAELS

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team fell 87-70 to the Queen's Gaels in OUA playoff action on Wednesday night (March 2) in Kingston, Ont.

Fourth-year forward and Blues leading scorer Devin Johnson led the squad with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds, while both Daniel Johansson and Miroslavic Jaksic had 13 points each. Johansson notched eight boards, while Jacksic had four on the night.

Veteran forward Manny Sahota and rookie guard Wilson Torres each recorded seven points in the loss.

After a back-and-forth first quarter, Johansson and Johnson teamed up to lead a 9-2 Toronto run and give the Blues a five-point lead (24-19) midway through the quarter. The Gaels bounced back though, ending the first half on a 19-4 streak to take a 38-28 advantage into halftime.  

Queen's padded their lead, outscoring the Blues 29-15 in the third quarter to build a 24-point lead (67-43) advantage heading into the final frame.

Toronto showed life, going on an 11-0 run early in the fourth quarter to chip away at the Gaels lead, but Queen's fought back and came away with the 17-point victory.  

Ryall Stroud led the Gaels with a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Tanner Graham notched 14 points in the victory.
