TRIVEDI NAMED ASSIATNT COACH FOR CANADIAN U17 NATIONAL TEAM

As announced by Canada Basketball on Thursday (April 2) afternoon, University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball head coach Madhav Trivedi will also serve as an assistant coach for the U17 men's national team.

Trivedi completed his fourth season as head coach of the Varsity Blues in February, leading the program to new heights with their second OUA semifinal appearance under his watch. In the postseason, the No. 11 seed Blues defeated nationally ranked opponents in Queen's and Western to punch their ticket to the semifinal. The Blues had a strong presence on defence all season long, ranking in the Top 10 in the OUA in rebounding (5th – 40) and blocks (10th – 2.7). Meanwhile in the postseason, U of T had the second highest field goal percentage, shooting 45.6 per cent and ranked amongst the Top 10 in three-point percentage (6th – 31.4).

Trivedi holds previous national coaching experience, serving as an assistant coach with the U16 Canadian men's national team, head coach for Canada's men's team at the Maccabiah summer games and an advanced scout with the U20 Israeli national team. Overall, he holds a record of 63-58 with the Blues and has made the postseason in three of four seasons.

Trivedi's journey to international competition begins with the U17 men's selection camp, scheduled to take place from April 3-6 at Humber College in Toronto.
