Photo GalleryThe University of Toronto Varsity Blues badminton squad claimed the top prize as the 2016 OUA championship wrapped up on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 21) in Hamilton, Ont.
Toronto defeated the host McMaster Marauders 6-1 in the OUA gold-medal match, including a thrilling 25-23 banner-sealing victory in men's doubles by Andre Chan and Adwin Liu, to claim their fourth OUA title since 1997, and second in four seasons.
The Blues went a perfect 4-0 in pool play, and went onto defeat the Western Mustangs, 6-4, in semi-final action.
First-year standout and 2015 Pan Am Games medalist Rachel Honderich earned OUA female player and rookie of the year honours, going undefeated with four mixed doubles, three women's doubles and one women's singles match over the three-day championship.
Blues bench boss Stéphane Cadieux, in his first season at U of T, was named the OUA coach of the year.
Honderich, along with Bethany So and Brittney Tam, as well as Blues men's standout Jackie Yeung were all named OUA all-stars.Â
