WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS SEASON OPENER

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team dropped their OUA season opener against the Waterloo Warriors 68-52 Saturday afternoon (Nov. 5) in Waterloo, Ontario.

In a tightly contested matchup the Varsity Blues kept within striking distance of the Warriors until the final quarter when U of T was outscored 17-9 to close the game.

Defensively, the Varsity Blues proved to be a turnover machine securing 29 takeaways while outscoring the Warriors 22-7 on points off turnovers.

However, the strong inside presence of the Warriors was to consistent and efficient as Waterloo out rebounded Toronto 53-26 while adding 17 second chance points from their impactful offensive rebounds.

Fourth-year Blues guard Rahshida Atkinson and Waterloo guard Kristen Osborne led all players with 16 points apiece.

Second-year players Keyira Parkes and Sarah Bennett secured nine points each for Toronto with Bennett also leading the Blues with eight rebounds.

The Varsity Blues now return to the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport where they will host the Ryerson Rams next Friday, November 11 in their home opener. The game will be a Fan Zone Friday event and will also be streamed live on OUA.tv. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
