The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's water polo team shut out the Carleton Ravens 7-0 to claim the 2016 provincial banner as the OUA championship wrapped up Sunday afternoon (Nov. 27) at Queen's University.
Toronto claims their 10th OUA title in the past 15 years and 31st overall in program history. The Blues earned their spot in the championship final with a dominant 18-0 win over the host Queen's Gaels in semi-final action yesterday.
"After last year's heartbreaking defeat to Carleton we came back extremely focused and motivated this year to bring the championship back to U of T," said Toronto head coach Vlad Tasevski after the championship win. "I think winning is amazing but it's a long road and requires a lot of hard work. Carleton is always a great opponent for us, we've played in the finals with them over the last couple of years and playing them is always a challenge but it makes us work even harder."
Second-year standout Daniel Ugray led the Blues with four goals, while Euan Scoffield, Paul Spooner and Stefan Mitic each scored one in the victory.
