Box Score The No. 10 University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team saw their six game win streak come to an end Sunday afternoon (Oct. 9) at Varsity Stadium dropping a 4-1 decision to the visiting Queen's Gaels.
Queen's first broke through just before the half courtesy a strong boot from Tonko Bacelic in the 41st minute.
After the break it was the Blues who came out on fire pressuring Gaels keeper Alex Jones through the first ten minutes with strong set pieces on net.
However, all the Gaels needed were two defensive miscues in the 65th and 66th minutes to lift the lead to 3-0 with Andrew Martin and Patrick Van Belleghe taking advantage of the failed clearing attempts by the Blues backline.
From there U of T and Queen's exchanged goals as Harry Michelis delivered a hard strike into the top right corner past Jones in the 75th minute for the Blues; Briam Jimenez Lopez scored for the Gaels in the 88th minute; and late Toronto substitution Russell Rodrigues added his second goal of the weekend in the 90th.
Toronto goalkeeper Mark Rogal finished the contest with three saves.
Jones made six saves in the win.
The Varsity Blues will need to bounce back quickly as they prepare to take on the undefeated No. 2 Ryerson Rams this Wednesday, October 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 p.m.
