BLUES SECURE FIRST PLACE WITH WIN OVER LIONS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team defeated the York Lions 5-0 on Sunday morning (Oct. 23) at Back Campus Fields.
 
With the win, the Blues improve to 10-1 and clinch first place in the standings heading into next weekend's OUA championship at Western University.
 
Fifth-year standout Alison Lee opened the scoring with a goal off a penalty corner in the 14th minute. Nicole Godman added another tally in the 26th minute and the Blues held a 2-0 lead at the half.
 
Lee notched her second of the game in the 59th minute, with Nicole Spring and Emma Wingrave each scoring in the 61st and 64th minutes, respectively, to round out the win.
 
Rookie netminder Elizabeth O'Hara earned the shut out victory in net.
 
The Blues wrap up their regular season this afternoon, hosting the Waterloo Warriors at 5:45 p.m. Four Varsity Blues players will be cutting their hair in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation in a special Think Pink ceremony at 4:15 p.m.
