FIELD HOCKEY WINS IN WILD SECOND HALF

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team defeated the Guelph Gryphons 3-2 Thursday night (Oct. 20) at Back Campus in a wild second half in the rain.

Fifth-year veteran Alison Lee continued her stellar offensive season opening the scoring in the first half to put the Blues up 1-0 at the break.
However, the Gryphons responded early in the second half with two quick goals to jump ahead 2-1 and put the pressure back on the defending OUA champions.

With both teams looking for holes, it was fourth-year forward Nicole Spring who edged her way through the Guelph defence to bang in the tying goal.

Then it was Lee scoring her second goal of the game as she weaved herself into the circle for a strong shot restoring Toronto's one goal lead.

Guelph threatened late finding an open look in the final two minutes of play but Blues first-year goalkeeper Elizabeth O'Hara came up with a big save with Lee clearing away any further danger.

The Blues will remain at home to end their regular season this weekend taking on the York Lions and Waterloo Warriors on Sunday, October 23. Action will begin at 10:45 a.m.
