LATE GOALS LEAD BLUES OVER LAKERS

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team shut out the Nipissing Lakers 3-0 on Sunday, October 2 at Varsity Stadium.
 
With the win, the Blues improve to 8-1-2 and sit tied for second place with the Carleton Ravens in the OUA East division.
 
After a scoreless first half that saw Toronto outshoot the Lakers 6-0, Nipissing began to rally. In the 67th minute Lakers midfielder Max Melnychenko found himself with a clear path to the net, but Blues goalkeeper Mark Rogal came up big a beautiful save.



 
The sparked the Blues as rookie defender Nikola Stakic opened the scoring, sliding to touch a Harry Michelis header off a Kenny Lioutas free kick just two minutes later.



 
Team captain Lukas MacNaughton notched his fifth goal of the season with a beautiful header off a Lioutas corner kick in the 82nd minute. First-year defender Josh Bowyer added an insurance marker in the 90th minute to round out the scoring.
 
Rogal leads the OUA with a .917 save percentage and seven clean sheets this season.
 
The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, October 8 when they host the RMC Paladins at Varsity Stadium. The game will be streamed live on OUA.tv starting at 2:15 p.m.
