The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team defeated the McGill Martlets 9-0 on Saturday morning (Oct. 1) in Kingston, Ont.
With the win, the Blues improve to 6-1 and sit tied with the Guelph Gryphons for first place.
Fourth-year forward Nicole Spring opened the scoring, notching what would stand as the game-winner in the 11th minute of the match.
Morgan Sleeth, a third-year forward from Toronto, notched her first of three goals five minutes later, while team co-captain Alison Lee tallied her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 28th minute. Toronto was up 3-0 at the half.
Veteran defender Taylor Fleck scored off a penalty corner in the 37th minute to start the second half, with Sleeth adding her second and third goals in the 40th and 60th minutes, respectively.
Co-captains Lauren Sudac and Lee rounded out the scoring with goals in the 64th and 69th minutes.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow when they take on the host Queen's Gaels at 2:15 p.m.
