Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team dropped a 96-60 decision to the CIS defending champion Windsor Lancers on Saturday afternoon at St. Denis Centre.
With the loss, the Blues drop to 1-3 and remain in third place in the East, while the Lancers improve to 4-1 and sit atop the West division.
Down 11 (38-27) with four minutes remaining in the second quarter, the Blues brought the game within four (38-34) in the dying minutes of the first half. The Lancers restored an eight-point advantage at halftime (42-34).
Windsor took control and sealed their win in the third quarter, outscoring Toronto 26-8, including a 13-3 run in the first half of the frame. First-year guard Keyira Parkes attempted to rally the squad, draining three straight baskets for the Blues, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
Parkes led the Blues with a season-high 12 points, while adding two steals on the day. Rahshida Atkinson added nine points, three rebounds and two steals, while fellow third-year guard Diedre Edwards had seven points and a team-high five rebounds and four steals. Rookie Sarah Bennett notched eight points and four rebounds in the loss.
Four Lancers hit double digits in the victory, with Carly Steer notching a game-high 16 points. Emily Prevost added a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds, with Andrea Kiss posting 14 points and nine boards in the win.
The Varsity Blues are back in action tomorrow as they travel to London, Ont., to take on the Western Mustangs. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. The game will also be streamed live on OUA.tv.Â
