Box Score Fifth-year defender Jason Cordeiro scored in the 90th minute to lead the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over the UOIT Ridgebacks on Sunday night (Oct. 4) in Oshawa, Ont.
With the win, the Blues are now 8-2-1 and remain in second place in the OUA East division.
Scoreless in the first 90 minutes of action, Jason Cordeiro jumped on a loose ball after a scramble in front of the net and kicked the ball off the UOIT goalkeeper and into the net.
"I am very proud of the way we played tonight," said Varsity Blues head coach Anthony Capotosto. "There was a commitment to possess the ball and unbalance the opposition by circulating the ball quickly. Â We were solid defensively and limited the opportunities for the opposition. Â We will look to build on this performance moving forward."
Veteran goalkeeper Rab Bruce-Lockhart made five saves in the shut out victory.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, October 10 when they travel to Ottawa to take on the Carleton Ravens.Â
