OUA FIELD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW: BLUES LOOK TO REPEAT ON HOME TURF

The defending champion University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team hosts the 2015 OUA championship, October 30-31, at Back Campus Fields.
 
Toronto finished the regular season tied with the Guelph Gryphons for first place in the OUA standings with identical 11-1 records. Based on point difference in head-to-head competition, Guelph takes the No. 1 seed heading into the Final Four and will kick off the championship vs the No. 4 Waterloo Warriors (5-6-1) on Friday at noon.
 
The host Blues are the No. 2 seeds and will take on the No. 3 York Lions (5-5-2) in the second semifinal of the day at 2 p.m. The winners of both semifinals will meet in the championship final on Saturday at 2 p.m., and will also advance to the 2015 CIS championship, November 5-8, at the University of Victoria.

U of T is vying for their second consecutive and fourth OUA banner in the past five years. The Blues have claimed an OUA-leading 30 provincial titles since 1971.
 
The Blues scored an OUA-leading 75 goals this season, with the veterans leading the way. Fifth-year forward Tegan Stairs led the Blues offensively, scoring nine goals in eight games played this season.
 
Fellow fifth-year seniors Ally Evanyshyn and Amanda Woodcroft notched seven and eight goals, respectively, with Anna McNeil and Nikki Woodcroft rounding out the Top 10 OUA goal scorers with five and six goals.
 
Toronto and Guelph have met in eight of the past 10 OUA finals. The two teams have dominated in recent history, combining for the past 11 provincial titles (Toronto 7, Guelph 4).
