The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team went 2-1 at the Laval Tournament, October 23-25, in Quebec City.
Toronto opened the three-day tournament with a 75-61 victory over Thetford Prep and followed that up with a 76-65 win over the Algoma Thunderbirds on Saturday afternoon. The Blues narrowly fell, 73-72, to the Dalhousie Tigers on Sunday.
Toronto 75, Thetford Prep 61Second-year forward Miroslav Jaksic led the Blues with 19 points, nine rebounds and two blocks, while veteran forward Manny Sahota had 17 points and seven boards. Rookie guard Nikola Paradina added 10 points, with Devin Johnson adding seven points and eight rebounds in the victory. First-year standout Devon Williams notched four points, six assists and three streals.
Toronto 76, Algoma 65Fourth-year forward Devin Johnson topped Toronto with 25 points and seven rebounds, while rookie guard Devon Williams had 13 points, four boards and three assists. Miroslav Jaksic added 11 points in the win.
Dalhousie 73, Toronto 72Â Devin Johnson led the Blues for the second consecutive game, notching 18 points and five rebounds. Manny Sahota added nine points, while sophomore guard Sage Usher had eight points and eight assists in the loss.Â
