WOMEN’S LACROSSE OUA CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's lacrosse team heads to Oshawa, Ont., for the 2015 OUA championship, October 23-25, hosted by the UOIT Ridgebacks.

Action will begin on Friday morning at 11:00am before concluding on Sunday afternoon with the gold and bronze medal matches.  Each team will play a minimum of two games and the teams have been seeded based on their regular season results.

Led by three-time OUA all-star turned head coach Taryn Grieder, the Varsity Blues went 10-3 to finish second in the OUA East division. The Varsity Blues filled the back of the net 138 times, the third highest goal total in the conference.

Earlier this season, third-year standout Sarah Jamieson (Etobicoke, Ont.) accounted for exactly half of Toronto's goals as she scored nine times in Toronto's 14-12 victory over Queen's and followed that up with four goals and four assists as the Blues topped the Gryphons 12-5.  Jamieson led the Varsity Blues in goals this season with 33 in just 13 games.

Melissa Holland (Peterborough, Ont.) and Mary Anne Meerasabeer (Mississauga, Ont.) have proven they can also fill the net for the Blues, scoring 25 and 24 goals, respectively, during the regular season.

Returning this year for the Blues is a pair of 2014 second-team all-stars, as goaltender Anna Goulding (Oshawa, Ont.) and Tasha Watkins (Whitby, Ont.) hope to help to lead the Blues to their first OUA championship since they won consecutive provincial titles in 2001 and 2002. 2009 OUA Defensive Player of the Year Jeska Eedens (St. Catharines, Ont.) will be relied upon to shore up a defence that allowed seven goals against per game this season.
