Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team defeated the No. 3 Ryerson Rams 3-0 on Saturday, September 27 at Monarch Park.
The win marks Toronto's second straight against nationally ranked opponents, after defeating the then No. 8 Queen's Gaels 2-1 last weekend. U of T's fourth straight win improves their record to 6-2-1 and moves them into second place in the OUA East division.
"It was a great team effort today," said Varsity Blues head coach Anthony Capotosto. "We worked hard for the entire 90 minutes against a very good Ryerson team. All the credit goes to the players as they earned the win. This was our best game so far this season."
Second-year standout Nirun Sivananthan (Brampton, Ont.) opened the scoring in the 26th minute when he found his way behind the Rams back line to slot it into the net
Blues co-captain Mario Kovacevic put Toronto up by two just over five minutes later on a penalty kick goal. Toronto was up 2-0 at the half.
Sivananthan notched his second of the game in the 65th minute and the Blues kept the Rams scoreless for the remainder of the game.
U of T goalkeeper Mark Rogal posted six saves in the victory.
The Varsity Blues return to action this Wednesday, October 1 as they travel to Oshawa to take on the UOIT Ridgebacks. Game time is set for 8:15 p.m.
