CIS/CCA WOMEN’S CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP DAY 2 RECAP

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's curling team took the reigning world junior champion Alberta Pandas to extra ends and sit 2-2 after Day 2 of the CIS/CAA championships in Regina.

Draw 3: Toronto vs UNB

Tied 1-1 after two ends, Danielle Bourque and the Blues stole two in the third to take a 3-1 lead. UNB answered with a single in the fourth, but Toronto took two in the fifth and stole one in the sixth to put the game away for good.

The Blues added one more in the eighth to round out the 7-4 victory.

Draw 4: Toronto vs Alberta

Three of the first five ends were blanked, leaving the Blues and Pandas deadlocked at 1-1 at the midway point of the game.

Alberta and world junior champion skip Kelsey Rocque went ahead 2-1 in the sixth, but Danielle Bourque and the Blues earned a single in the seventh and stole one in the eighth to take a 3-2 lead.
 
Rocque and the Pandas took two in the ninth, but a final hit and roll from U of T vice Nicole Seto tied the game at 4-4 to force extra ends.
 
"It was a really well curled game by both teams," said Bourque after Day 2. "I'm really proud of our team for really holding our own against the reigning world junior champions. We're really looking forward to getting back on the ice tomorrow."
