The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team defeated the Brock Badgers 3-0 (25-20, 30-28, 25-21) on Saturday, February 1.
With the win, the Blues improve to 13-3 and remain atop the OUA East division heading into tomorrows big match verses the No. 7 Ottawa Gee-Gees.
Charlotte Sider led all players with 13 kills and 16 digs, while Tessa Davis added 12 kills in the win. Julia Bellehumeur recorded 27 assists and libero Asli Ersozoglu tallied 14 digs.
The Badgers went ahead early in the first set however the Blues went on a 4-0 run to take control of the lead (10-9). Toronto continued with their momentum and led 16-15 at the technical time out. The teams then went point for point before another 4-0 run put the Blues up 21-19. A kill from Caleigh Cruickshank sealed the first set 25-20 for Toronto.
The Blues trailed the Badgers for most of the second set before two big kills from Sider, shifted the play Toronto's way and put them up by one at 23-22. From there the teams battled it out for possession of match point. U of T broke through with a huge Davis serve that ended with Sarah Chapin neatly putting away Brocks return for the final point. The Blues took the set 30-28.
In the third set the U of T found themselves behind the Badgers again, however kills from Sider and Chapin finally put the Blues in front to take the lead 10-7. Brock remained in hot pursuit but the Blues held onto the lead. Toronto clinched the set and match with a big block from Bojana Radan 25-21.
Shenise Power led the Badgers with12 kills and nine digs, while Lauren Sterling recorded 24 assists and nine digs in the game.

The Varsity Blues celebrated graduating players Julia Bellehumeur, Sarah Chapin and Malena Rapaport in a special pre-game ceremony.
