STRATTON LEADS BLUES IN SEASON OPENER

Box Score Fifth-year guard Jill Stratton notched a game-high 27 points in leading the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team to a 75-63 victory over the Waterloo Warriors in their 2014 season opener on Friday night (Nov. 7) in Waterloo.

A native of Etobicoke, Ont., Stratton went 9-for-20 from the floor and 7-for-8 from the free throw line, while adding eight rebounds and four steals.

Second-year forward and StFX transfer Selali Acolatse recorded a double-double of 16 points and a game-high 13 boards, while veteran forward Liane Bailey had nine points and seven boards on the night.

Jasmine Lewin tallied eight points, five steals and four assists in the victory.

Down 21-16 midway through the second quarter, the Blues sealed their win with an impressive 17-point run to end the second quarter and took a 33-21 lead into halftime.

Waterloo was led by a 15-point performance from Marti Killeen, with Madison Behr adding 12 points and Emily Wilk posting 11 points in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to the court tomorrow night as they head back to Waterloo, Ont., to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
