University of Toronto Varsity Blues veterans Kilian Elkinson and Mario Kovacevic each earned major awards as Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced awards and all-stars on Tuesday afternoon.
Elkinson was honoured as the OUA East most valuable player, while Kovacevic earned the East community service award.
The duo, along with Ezequiel Lubocki, Devon Bowyer and Lukas MacNaughton all earned OUA East all-star honours this season.
A fifth-year striker and Toronto native, Elkinson led the Blues and ranked first in the OUA East with 11 goals in 10 games. He becomes the first Varsity Blue since back-to-back wins for Darragh McGee in 2010 and 2011 to earn the honour.
A team co-captain and fifth-year midfielder/striker, Kovacevic ranked second on the team with eight goals in 13 games this season. The Woodbridge, Ont., native earns his fourth straight all-star nod and first community service honour.
Kovacevic has been actively involved as a student-leader in the greater University community. He serves as the Co-Chair of the Varsity Board, works closely with the Council of Athletics and Recreation on campus and has spearheaded major events including Toronto's annual high school tournament and the National Soccer Coaching Conference that is now in its fourth year of operation.Â
A fellow team co-captain, Lubocki is recognized for the fifth time in as many years as an OUA all-star. The native of Winnipeg has led Toronto's midfield for the past five seasons and helped the Blues to the highest offensive in the OUA East with 40 goals this year.
Sophomore defenders MacNaughton and Bowyer earn their first and second all-star nods, respectively. The duo led Toronto to a mere 13 goals against in 16 games.
