BLUES STREAK SNAPPED AT YORK

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell 41-38 to the York Lions on Friday, January 10 at Tait McKenzie Centre.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 4-7 and remain in fourth, while the Lions improve to 2-9 and move into sixth in the OUA East division.

Jill Stratton notched six points, five rebounds and three assists, while Liane Bailey also had six points and five boards. Vanessa Brathwaite and Alicia Van Kampen each added six points in the loss.

The Varsity Blues got out to a 6-0 start, but York responded with a 7-2 run and the two squads were deadlocked at 12-12 after the first quarter.  A low-scoring second saw the Lions take a narrow 22-21 lead into halftime.

The two teams exchanged baskets through the third with York taking a three-point advantage (36-33) into the final frame. The Blues evened the score early in the fourth (36-36), but the Lions pulled away and a couple of late free throws sealed the win for the home team.

The Varsity Blues return to the court tomorrow night as they head to Kingston, Ont., to take on the Queen's Gaels.
