The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's rugby team fell 38-0 to the York Lions in their 2013 season opener on Sunday, September 8 at University of Toronto Scarborough Campus.
 
York's Jamie Strachan opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a try, followed by an Alexis Boltsis conversion – one of her four on the day. The Blues had a couple of chances deep in Lions territory but were unable to convert. Aisan Fazeli and Fedelia Omoghan also scored in the first half to give the Lions a 19-0 lead at the midway point of the game. 
 
U of T dominated the opening 10 minutes of the second half, but again were unable to get over the line. York's Sasha Seymour, Zoe Smith and Emmanuela Jada each scored in the last 16 minutes of the contest to round out the Lions victory.
 
The Varsity Blues will look to bounce back this Saturday, September 14 as they head to St. Catharines, Ont., to take on the Brock Badgers. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
