First-year midfielder Nirun Sivananthan scored in the 88th minute to help the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team tie the Laurentian Voyageurs 1-1 on Sunday, September 8 at Varsity Centre.

The Blues are now 1-1-1 on the season, while the Voyageurs are  2-1-1 in the OUA East division. Toronto outshot Laurentian 10-2 on the day.

After a scoreless first half, it looked as though the Blues had the first goal as Blues co-captain Ezequiel Lubocki (Winnipeg) found himself all alone in front of Laurentian goalkeeper Thomas Guscott, but the Sudbury native came up with the stop.

The Voyageurs opened the scoring in the 70th minute with a goal off the foot of fifth-year striker Stephen Fattore (Brampton). Rookie midfielder Russell Rodrigues had a chance to tie it for the Blues in the 77th minute when his shot rang off the post, but it was Sivananthan who would even the score for the Blues in the dying minutes.

First-year goalkeeper Kenneth Viegas (Brampton) made one save in the draw.

The Varsity Blues return to action this Wednesday, September 11 as they host the Trent Excalibur at Varsity Centre. Game time is set for 8:15 p.m.
