FOOTBALL IN THE HUNT FOR BIG ROAD WIN THIS WEEKEND

Coming off their first win of the season, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team is squeezing in three days of solid prep before they turn around and head to Ottawa for Saturday's battle with the Gee-Gees. Kick off is set for 1 p.m.

The game will mark the grand opening of Ottawa's Gee-Gees Field and will be streamed live on SSN Canada via varsityblues.ca.

"It's definitely a short week," said Varsity Blues head coach Greg Gary. "We've got to use these three days to flush it out and get healthy. We'll look at Ottawa film, take our time and go through our game plan to be prepared for Saturday."

Ottawa holds a 22-17-0 advantage over Toronto since their first meeting in 1905. The Gee-Gees have taken the last two games, with U of T's last victory (40-35) coming on Oct. 2, 2010 at Varsity Centre.

Both teams are 1-1 after two weeks of action. The Blues fell to the No. 4 Western Mustangs in Week 1, before bouncing back with a 27-20 win over Laurier on Monday night. Ottawa opened the season with a 51-24 loss to the defending Yates Cup champion McMaster Marauders and rebounded with a 44-32 win over Waterloo in Week 2.

Second-year Blues quarterback Chris Jugovic of Hamilton, Ont., has had a great start to the 2013 capaign and currently ranks fifth in the OUA, averaging 266.5 yards per game. Third-year linebacker Dylan Gordon (Cambridge) is tied for fourth in the province with 15 tackles in two games, while Varsity Blues athlete of the week Harrison Beeforth (Richmond Hill) shares the CIS lead with three sacks.

Ottawa QB Aaron Colbon has also had a stellar start to his season, averaging 393.5 yards and 3.5 touchdowns per game. The fifth-year veteran also ranks second in the OUA with 163 rushing yards. Nicolas Daghar and Simon Le Marquand have been his favourite targets, with 206 and 163 receiving yards, respectively.

U of T's next home game is on Saturday, September 14 when they host the Guelph Gryphons in their #BLEEDBLUE Spirit Game at Varsity Centre. Kick off is set for 1 p.m.
