The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team fell 61-3 to the No. 3 nationally-ranked Western Mustangs on Saturday, September 19 at Varsity Stadium.
The Blues got on the board midway through the fourth quarter off of a 27-yard Filippo Marcello field goal, set up by a 33-yard rush from rookie running back Omar Martin.
Third-year safety Oskar McPhie led all players with a career-high nine tackles, while also adding one interception in the second quarter. In his first game of the season, fourth-year linebacker Ryan Stewart racked up six tackles, while Kai Nagamatsu added 5.5 tackles in the loss.
Third-year quarterback Kaleb O'Donoghue was 12-of-20 for 87 yards, with rookie running back Omar Martin rushing six times for 62Â yards. Fourth-year veteran Denayden Lee-Daniel made four receptions for 33 yards on the day.
The Blues head to Windsor, Ont., next Saturday, September 26 to take on the Lancers. Â Kick off is set for 1 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on OUA.tv.
