BLUES REMAIN PERFECT WITH BIG WIN OVER GRYPHONS

The two-time OUA defending champion Varsity Blues field hockey team edged their rival Guelph Gryphons 2-1 on Saturday morning (Sept. 28) in Guelph, Ont.

With the win, the Blues improve to 6-0 and remain in first place, while the Gryphons drop to 4-1 and drop into second place in the OUA standings.

Fourth-year forward and OUA leading scorer Ally Evanyshyn (Burlington, Ont.) opened the scoring in the ninth minute for the Blues, and fellow veteran Justine Branco (Mississauga) notched the eventual game-winner just six minutes later.

The Gryphons cut the deficit to one in the 47th minute, as Daniela Jelec scored on a penalty stroke; however, Blues netminder Katy Jo Williams turned aside everything else that came her way to secure the win.

The Varsity Blues return to the field tomorrow (Sept. 29) as they take on the Waterloo Warriors back in Guelph. Game time is set for 12:30 p.m.
