Fourth-year forward Ally Evanyshyn recorded her first hat trick of the season in leading the University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team to a 5-0 win over the Waterloo Warriors on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 15).
With the win, the Blues improve to 2-0 and sit tied with the Guelph Gryphons for first place after the first week of OUA field hockey action.
Veteran forward Justine Branco of Mississauga opened the scoring in the first minute of the match and Evanyshyn (Burlington) added back-to-back tallies in the 26th and 28th minutes to give U of T a 3-0 lead at halftime.Â
Evanyshyn notched her third straight in the 63rd minute off a corner opportunitiy, and veteran defender Sara Ali (Toronto) scored her first career goal, also off a corner chance, in the 70th minute to round out the win.Â
U of T returns to the field next Saturday, September 21 as they host the Western Mustangs and York Lions at Varsity Centre. Game times are set for 10:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.
