The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team shut out the Queen's Gaels 3-0 in their 2013 season opener on Saturday, September 14 in Waterloo, Ont.
 
Fifth-year veteran forward Justine Branco (Missisauga) opened the scoring for the two-time OUA defending champion Blues, with a goal in the ninth minute. U of T led 1-0 at the half.

Fellow veteran forward Alex Thicke (North Vancouver) notched Toronto's second tally in the 37th minute off a corner opportunity and sophomore defender Alison Lee (Mississauga) rounded out the scoring with a penalty stroke goal in the 53rd minute.
 
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow, September 15, as they take on the Warriors back in Waterloo. Game time is set for 2:45 p.m.
