Fifth-year veteran Shannon Rossall led the Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-20) victory over the Ryerson Rams in the OUA bronze-medal match on Saturday night at Tait McKenzie Centre.
Rossall (Calgary) led all players with 12 kills and six blocks as Toronto earned their second consecutive OUA bronze medal.
Third-year right side Charlotte Sider (Ottawa) recorded four kills, four aces and a game-high 19 digs, while Katrina Rossall added 18 digs in her last game in the Blue and White.
Some big blocks saw Toronto take an 8-6 lead early in the first set. The Blues held onto a 16-13 advantage at the time out, before a Caleigh Cruickshank ace and Rossall kill ended the set 25-20 in favour of the Blues.
Ryerson battled back to start the second and held a 16-8 lead at the technical time out; however, the Blues stormed back with an 8-2 run to even the score at 18-18. Toronto completed the comeback with another 7-3 streak to take the second set 25-21.
U of T carried that momentum over to the third set and built an early 9-4 lead over the Rams. Ryerson evened the score at 10-10 but it was all Toronto from there as the Blues secured their second consecutive bronze medal with the 25-20 win.
Ryerson was led by Chelsea Jensen and Emily Nicholishen, who each tallied nine kills in the loss.
