MEN'S SOCCER SECURES OUA QUARTER-FINAL SPOT

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team secured a spot in the OUA quarter-finals after topping the Laurentian Voyageurs 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 23) in Sudbury, Ont.

The Voyageurs struck first in the 16th minute when first-year forward Cole Giffin (Kingston, Ont.)  put a header in the back of the Blues net.

It didn't take long for the teams to find themselves in a very familiar scenario when Blues midfielder Russell Rodrigues (Toronto) put a goal away in the 36th minute, to tie the game 1-1.

The Blues took control of the match seven minutes into the second half with a goal from fifth-year striker Kilian Elkinson (Toronto), his third of the season.

Toronto outshot the Voyageurs 6-4, while second-year goal keeper Rab Bruce-Lockhart (Victoria) made three saves in the game for the win.

With the win, Toronto secures a quarter- final match and will face the Ryerson Rams this Sunday, October 27 at Birchmount Stadium. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
