Killian Elkinson and Veljko Lukovic scored seven minutes apart in the second half as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team overcame a one-goal deficit to defeat the Queen's Gaels 2-1 on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 12) at Varsity Centre.
With the win, the Blues improve to 3-4-4 and move into fifth place in the OUA East standings.
After a scoreless first half, Queen's midfielder Chris Michael opened the scoring in the 55th minute, scoring off a free kick in front of the Blues net.
Things were looking grim for the Blues, until team co-captain Mario Kovacevic (Woodbrige) fed Elkinson the ball, who chipped it over Gaels goalkeeper Dylan Maxwell to even the score at one apiece.
Seven minutes later off a Toronto corner kick, Lukovic headed the ball into the bottom left corner for the eventual game-winner and his second goal of the season.
U of T netminder Rab Bruce Lockhart made eight saves in the win.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow afternoon (Oct. 13) as they host the RMC Paladins at Varsity Centre. Game time is set for 3:15 p.m.
