FIELD HOCKEY CLINCHES FIRST PLACE WITH WIN OVER GAELS

Fourth-year forward and OUA leading scorer Ally Evanyshyn scored two goals in leading the two-time OUA defending champion Varsity Blues field hockey team to a 3-0 win over the Queen's Gaels on Friday night (Oct. 11) at Varsity Centre.

With the win, the Blues improve to 10-0-1 and officially clinch first place in the OUA standings. Toronto will receive an automatic bye into the OUA semifinals two weeks from now.

Rookie forward Lauren Sudac of Burlington, Ont., notched the eventual game-winner in the 28th minute and Evanyshyn scored three minutes later on a corner opportunity to give the Blues a 2-0 lead at the half.

Evanyshyn added her second of the game and 15th of the season in the 60th minute to round out the win.

Veteran goalie Katy Jo Williams earned the shut out in net.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, October 19 as they travel to take on the York Lions. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m.
