BLUES SHUT OUT RMC ON HOME TURF

Second-year striker Jermaine Burrell scored two goals in leading the No. 8 Varsity Blues men’s soccer team to a 4-0 win over the RMC Paladins on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Varsity Centre.

A native of Kellits, Jamaica, Burrell opened the scoring in the 11th minute when he streaked through two RMC defenders and slotted the ball past Paladins goalkeeper Tobin Semple.

Striker Adrian Dannel (Maloney Gardens, T.T) scored his second goal of the season when he one-timed a beautiful cross from fellow rookie Marko Miketic (Toronto) into the back of the net in the 31st minute.

The Blues held a 2-0 lead at the half.

2011 OUA all-star Mario Kovacevic notched his first goal of the year on a beautiful play in the 62nd minute. The Woodbridge, Ont., native tracked a long cross from Jean Giroux, beat a defender and bicycle kicked it to find the back of the net.

Burrell added his second marker of the game in the 84th minute, one-timing a pass from rookie Tyrell Rayne into the empty mesh.

The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow afternoon as they host the Queen’s Gaels at Varsity Centre. The game will be streamed live starting at 3:15 p.m.

NOTES: Blues rookie goalkeeper Rab Bruce-Lockhart was injured in the 36th minute and replaced by veteran midfielder Dylan Bams. Bams posted one save in the shut out victory.
