Karla Telidetzki scored four tries in leading the Varsity Blues women’s rugby team to a 38-15 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Wednesday, September 5 at Varsity Centre.
The win marks Toronto's first over Laurier since 2003.
The Blues opened the scoring just five minutes into the contest as Bailey Rudnick pushed in for the try. Telidetzki, the 2011 OUA Russell division most valuable player and all-star, then notched three consecutive tries, with Zoriana Workun adding a late one to give U of T a dominant 31-3 lead at the half.
Laurier’s Jennifer Gilmour attempted to rally the troops with an early try in the second; however, Telidetzki answered back seven minutes later. Samantha Reid added a late marker for the Hawks but it wasn’t enough as the final whistle sounded in favour of the Blues.
Toronto’s Nicole Baker added four conversions in the win.
The Varsity Blues return to action this Sunday, September 9 as they head to Peterborough, Ont., to take on the Trent Excalibur. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
