The Varsity Blues women’s rugby team lost their third straight match, falling 23-12 to the second-place York Lions on Saturday, September 29 at Varsity Centre.
 
The Blues defence struggled to contain the Lions early in the first half. York scored on a penalty kick and followed up with a try in the first 25 minutes of action.
 
Later in the first half, the Blues offence was able to score on tries by Karla Telidetzki (Edmonton, Alta.) in the 29^th minute and Emily Mitchell (Fenelon Falls, Ont.) in the 38^th, helping the home team narrow York’s lead. However, another penalty kick and a try by Amber Barrett (Kitchener, Ont.), gave the Lions an 18-12 lead at halftime.
 
York was able to extend their lead on Barrett’s second try of the game, the only scoring in the second half, in the 52^nd minute.
 
Toronto’s loss keeps the team in fifth place in the OUA Russell division while York’s (3-2) win moves the team one game above .500.
 
The Varsity Blues return to action on Friday, October 5 as they travel to take on the McMaster Marauders. Game time is set for 1 pm.
