STAIRS SCORES THREE TO LEAD BLUES TO VICTORY

First-year forward Emma Stairs scored a hat trick in leading the Varsity Blues field hockey team to a 7-1 victory over the McGill Martlets on Sunday morning (Sept. 23) at Varsity Centre.

With the win, the Blues improve to a perfect 5-0 and remain atop the OUA standings.

Though U of T dominated the entire match, it was the Martlets who struck first. Rookie forward Helen Thompson (Vancouver) managed to find the back of the net in the sixth minute.

That lead did not last long as Stairs evened the score just six minutes later. Veteran defender Kelley Lusk notched the eventual game-winner off a corner in the 16th minute and it was all Toronto from there.

Ally Evanyshyn, Amanda Woodcroft and Kaelan Watson also scored in the win.

The Varsity Blues return to the field next Saturday, September 29 as they head to Guelph, Ont., to take on the Waterloo Warriors. Game time is set for 10:45 a.m.
