First-year forward Emma Stairs scored a hat trick in leading the Varsity Blues field hockey team to a 7-1 victory over the McGill Martlets on Sunday morning (Sept. 23) at Varsity Centre.
Â
With the win, the Blues improve to a perfect 5-0 and remain atop the OUA standings.
Â
Though U of T dominated the entire match, it was the Martlets who struck first. Rookie forward Helen Thompson (Vancouver) managed to find the back of the net in the sixth minute.
Â
That lead did not last long as Stairs evened the score just six minutes later. Veteran defender Kelley Lusk notched the eventual game-winner off a corner in the 16
th minute and it was all Toronto from there.
Â
Ally Evanyshyn, Amanda Woodcroft and Kaelan Watson also scored in the win.
Â
The Varsity Blues return to the field next Saturday, September 29 as they head to Guelph, Ont., to take on the Waterloo Warriors. Game time is set for 10:45 a.m.
