BLUES SOCCER BACK AT VARSITY WEDNESDAY NIGHT

The Varsity Blues men’s and women’s soccer teams host the Trent Excalibur in a special mid-week match-up this Wednesday, September 19 at Varsity Centre.

The women start the action at 6 p.m., with the men to follow at 8:15 p.m. Both games are free and open to the public.

U of T’s women are riding a four-game undefeated streak, currently sitting in third place in the OUA East division with a 3-1-2 record. Trent is 1-3-1, tied with Ryerson for sixth place.

Rookie striker and Toronto native LaShaunna Harper leads the Blues with four goals in six games, while sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Petrucci of Bolton, Ont., has notched three shut out so far in 2012.

Since their first match in 1986, the Blues have gone 37-1-4 versus Trent. The Excalibur have improved in recent years, drawing the Blues 0-0 last season before U of T came away with a 4-0 win at home.

The Varsity Blues men are looking to bounce back after a 2-1 loss to the Nipissing Lakers on Sunday. U of T is currently 2-3-0 and in fifth place in the OUA East, two points ahead of the Excalibur (1-3-1).

Second-year striker Jermaine Burrell (Kellits, Jamaica) leads the Blues with three goals, while Mario Kovacevic (Woodbirdge, Ont.) has two so far this season.

U of T’s men hold a 48-2-4 head-to-head record over the Excalibur since their first meeting in 1975. The Blues went 1-0-1 versus Trent in 2011.
