LAKERS LATE GOAL SINKS BLUES

The Varsity Blues men’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Nipissing Lakers on Sunday, September 16 at RJ Surtees field in North Bay, Ont.

Toronto’s second straight loss drops them to 2-3-0 on the season, while Nipissing improves to 2-1-2.

Lakers striker Ryan Mantle opened the scoring in the 19th minute; however, Blues veteran midfielder Dylan Bams of Fanny Bay, B.C., evened the score in the 32nd and the teams remained deadlocked at the half.

Despite numerous scoring chances for the Blues, it was the Lakers who struck next as Jean-Michel Paulin notched the eventual game-winner in the 63rd minute.

Blues rookie goalkeeper Anthony Spanopulos made four saves in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to action this Wednesday, September 19 as they host the Trent Excalibur at Varsity Centre. Game time is set for 8:15 p.m.
