Rookie striker LaShaunna Harper scored in the 89th minute as the Varsity Blues women’s soccer team opened their 2012 campaign with a 1-1 draw versus the Carleton Ravens on Saturday, September 1 in Ottawa.

A Toronto native, Harper got the Blues on the board and evened the score when she deked around the Ravens goalkeeper on a breakaway and found the back of the net.  It was U of T’s fourth breakaway attempt of the match.

After a scoreless first half, Carleton’s Nicole Filipow got the home team on the board when she beat Blues goalkeeper Sara Petrucci with a hard shot into the bottom left corner of the net.

Petrucci posted seven saves on the day. 

The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow afternoon as they take on the Ottawa Gee-Gees. The game will be streamed live on SSN Canada, beginning at 1 p.m.
