Box Score The Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team notched a 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 18-25, 25-23) win over the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday night (Nov. 17) in Thunder Bay, Ont.
With the victory, the Blues improve to 4-3 and sit tied with the Western Mustangs for fifth place, while Lakehead drops to 1-7.
A native of Ottawa, Charlotte Sider had another big night with 17 kills and 10 digs for a team-high 18 points. Third-year right side hitter Jennifer Neilson of Port Coquitlam, B.C., added 10 kills and five digs, while Alexandra Hudson (Mississauga) had five kills and 11 digs. Julia Bellehumeur recorded a 28 assists in the win.
The first and second sets saw Toronto build 16-14 leads at the technical time outs, and continue to edge the Thunderwolves for a 2-0 lead. Lakehead was able to take the third set, building a 19-11 advantage and not looking back.
Down 19-16 late in the fourth set, the Blues went on a 9-4 run to close out the match with a 25-23 set win.
Jorie Daymond led Lakehead with a game-high 24 kills, while adding 14 digs. Vanessa Chorkawy also had 13 kills and 25 digs in the loss.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, November 23 when they head to Guelph, Ont., to take on the Gyphons. Opening serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
