Box Score The Varsity Blues women’s basketball team squeaked out a 55-52 win over the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday night (Nov. 17) in Waterloo, Ont.
Toronto (4-0) remains in sole possession of first place in the East, while the Warriors drop to 0-3 on the season.
Both Jasmine Lewin (Brampton, Ont.) and Rachael Sider (New Westminster, B.C.) tallied a game-high 12 points, while Amanda Lauzon (Niagara Falls, Ont.) recorded her first double-double of the season 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Lauzon tallied eight points in the first frame to give the Blues an 18-11 advantage after the first 10 minutes. Toronto maintained a comfortable nine-point lead (30-21) at halftime.
Waterloo made things interesting with back-to-back three’s to bring the game within two (31-29) midway through the third quarter. The Warriors took over the lead with less than two minutes to go in the frame and held Toronto to only six points to carry a 39-36 lead into the fourth quarter.
Lewin and Sider combined for 13 points in the fourth quarter to mount the comeback and lead the Blues to their fourth straight win.
Erika Persson led the Warriors with 11 points, while Jacqui Rodrigues had nine in the loss.
The Varsity Blues return to the court next Friday, November 23 as they head to London, Ont., to take on the Western Mustangs. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
