BLUES FALL TO NO. 6 BADGERS

Box Score Fifth-year Varsity Blues guard Sherri Pierce led all players with 22 points in a 79-69 losing effort versus the Brock Badgers in OUA women’s basketball action on Saturday, December 3 in St. Catharines, Ont.

Toronto’s second straight loss leaves them tied for second place with Carleton with identical 5-3 records heading into the December break

A native of Brampton, Ont., Pierce was 6-of-12 from the floor and 9-for-11 from the free throw line.  Sophomore guard Jill Stratton (Etobicoke, Ont.) had 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Megan Stoncius added 10 points and seven boards in the loss.

The Blues started off well, holding a 23-15 lead after the first quarter and a 38-35 advantage at halftime. With 2:55 left in the third quarter, Toronto led 46-45, before Brock put together a 10-5 run to end the quarter leading by four (55-51). Brock would extend their lead to 13 points late in the fourth quarter en route to their eighth straight victory.

Emily McKay led the Badgers with 15 points, while Nicole Rosenkranz had a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The Varsity Blues return to the court at the end of the month (Dec. 28-30) as they head west for the Calgary Dinos tournament.
