Despite a valiant effort, the Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team fell 3-2 (23-25, 27-25, 25-22, 25-18, 9-15) to the Western Mustangs on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 13) at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.
With their fist loss, the Blues remain tied in first place with a 6-1 record, while the Mustangs remain in a six-way tie for third place in the OUA with a 3-3 record.
A native of Ottawa, Ont., Charlotte Sider recorded 12 kills, 16 digs and tied for a game-high three solo blocks in the losing cause. Third-year rightside hitter and Mississauga, Ont., native Alexandra Hudson had 10 kills and nine digs and a team-high 45 total attacks.
The Mustangs came out to win the first two sets but the Blues battled back to even the score and force a fifth-and-deciding set.
Western was lead by Kelly Frittenberg’s (Calendon) game-high 19 points. Stephanie Kreuter added 15 points on a game-high 56 total attacks and Danielle Marshall added 10 points of her own.
The Varsity Blues return to action on Friday, November 18 when they travel to Kingston, Ont., to take on the Queen’s Gaels. The game begins at 6 p.m.
