The No. 8 Varsity Blues men’s soccer team came away with a 4-1 win over the RMC Paladins on Sunday, October 9 at Varsity Centre.
With the win, the Blues improve to 6-2-1 and sit in third place with two games in hand.
Fourth-year midfielder Dylan Bams of Fanny Bay, B.C., opened the scoring in the 18
th minute with a goal assisted by Nikola Paunic.
Toronto held a 1-0 lead at the half.
RMC quickly evened the score when Michael Lachance beat Blues goalkeeper John Smits in the 68
th minute.
Blues captain Darragh McGee then stepped up in a big way. The Donegal, Ireland native was awarded a penalty kick and sent a booming shot over the head of Paladins keeper Jhordan Dorrington for the eventual game-winner.
Veteran midfielder Geoffrey Borgmann and rookie striker Jermaine Burrell added single tallies in the 77
th and 89
th minutes, respectively, to round out the 4-1 victory.
The Varsity Blues return to the field next Sunday, October 16 as they host the Ryerson Rams at Varsity centre. Game time is set for 2:15 p.m.
