Three tries in the last 10 minutes would be the difference as the Varsity Blues women’s rugby team fell 41-29 to the Queen’s Gaels on Friday afternoon (Oct. 7) at Varsity Centre.
With the loss, the Blues end the regular season at 2-3 and in fourth place in the OUA Russell division.
Down 17-12 at the half, Toronto’s Karla Telidetzki found a gap and sprinted 60 yards down the field to even the score in the 45th minute.
The two teams then exchanged tries over the next 15 minutes of action, until the visiting Gaels took control with three unanswered tries to take control.
Despite a last-minute effort from Toronto, the Blues dropped their third game of the season.
Telidetzki led the Blues with two tries, while veterans Lee-Anne Corrigan and Hannah Ehrhardt, as well as sophomore Rozhen Asrani each added single tries on the day. Emily McNally had two converts in the loss.
Andrea Wadsworth and Melanie Judges led the Gaels with two tries apiece in the win.
The Blues will now wait on results from this weekend to determine their OUA quarter-final matchup. The OUA quarter-final's begin next week on October 15.
