BLUES TOP THUNDERWOLVES IN HOME OPENER

The Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team notched their second straight win of 2011-12 with a 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-22, 25-19) victory over the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday night (Oct. 28) at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

Second-year rightside hitter and Varsity Blues athlete of the week Charlotte Sider (Ottawa) led all players with 16 kills and added 11 digs on the night.

Rookie leftside hitter Denise Wooding of North Vancouver, B.C., also had a stellar night with 11 kills and eight digs, while Alexandra Hudson had nine kills, seven digs and two aces.  Malena Rapaport controlled the ball well, tallying 43 assists, while Katrina Rossall notched a team-high 15 digs in the win.

The Blues return to action tomorrow night as they host their second game versus the Thunderwolves at 5 p.m.  U of T will also be honouring the 1989 OWIAA championship team between the second and third sets.
